Chapter 7 Reading

Principle 6 Charge It Up

Emotion and Information - Processing system

Emotion is an important part of how we process information and that being said we continually scan for information and then we process any viable data, from there we save it as a schema or models. Our emotions can greatly influence what information that we take in and process because without emotion how else would we be able to create meaningful experiences, we would all just be the same and sometimes it feels that way. Each and every person is going to have different or varied perceptions because we all process the information according to how we think and feel, we all have the same processing system, but it is because of the our emotion connect that we have with whatever it is we process.

Emotional Salience

Express emotion can be very difficult to convey correctly due to a system of signs in which a gesture of emotion was pinned with a word and that is how the system has been working. With this system we differentiate the meanings. Through imagery we can communicate emotion more effectively than that of just words because we pair the word image with one another and if it fits we have that ah HA moment. Words can be effective in painting a abstract image in the mind, but it can be widely open or changeable to interpretation. Having emotional images can be very beneficial, but sometimes makes things to easy and not challenging enough. A neutral image can make the viewer dig deeper into there emotions to try and figure out just what exactly is going on or it can create a confused way of thinking and then no time invested by the viewer.

Narratives

Narratives or stories can really control direction of emotion in a viewer and it is because there is so much going on and when we read a book and find out about the all the characters, we look to see if we relate to any of them and it makes the experience more meaningful. Having a Narritive to a design can greatly help to identify the context in which the design is placed under. In a story we have we a beginning and an end, between those is the climax and this where the reader or viewer gets the most emotional connect with the story and it helps to keep them vested in your design or book.
